Station Cottage is the former ticket
office and waiting rooms built by the
Great Eastern Railway in 1881, and
converted into self-catering holiday
accommodation in 1997. The railway
cottage is situated on the Acle
Railway Station which is midway
between Norwich and Great
Yarmouth, on a rural branch line
running 15 trains a day in both
directions. The line was opened in
1883 as a single-track relief line
running from Brundall to Breydon
Junction, with intermediate stations
at Lingwood and Acle. Acle has a
passing loop and a signal box that is
manually operated by the block
telegraph system using semaphore
arm signals, still illuminated by oil
lamps!
